Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR. Unfortunately right now is a pretty busy time of year for me at work (I’m an accountant) so I haven’t been able to read nearly as much as I would like. The result of this is that my TBR list has grown by leaps and bounds over the last month or two. Here are some books that I’m really looking forward to reading this spring (if/when I magically find the time).

My finds this week include a historical fiction, two young adult, and two suspense:

  1. Toward the Sea of Freedom by Sarah Lark

    This book just sounds great to me, traveling from Ireland to Australia, getting separated from your love only to end up in the same place. Sounds fantastic!
  2. After the Woods by Kim Savage

    This book is about a girl who escaped her kidnapper in the woods, but a year later a different girl is found dead in the woods and the one who escaped has a bunch of memories that re-surface. Sounds creepy and fascinating.
  3. Riders by Veronica Rossi

    This book is about the four horsemen of the apocalypse, which I really don’t think we see enough books about this topic. Can’t wait to give this a try.
  4. Beside Myself by Ann Morgan

    Identical twins switch places for a day when they’re six years old, but then one of the twins won’t switch back, which causes the other twin to have never ending mental issues. To be honest I feel like there are about 4 other books that just came out with this story line but I haven’t read any of them yet (can’t even name them all really) but I would love to read this one.
  5. The Ex by Alafair Burke

    This book sounds really creepy, a man gets accused of a triple-murder, one of the victims was involved in another murder and it all just sounds creepy and exciting.

This week is a listing of the Top Ten Books I’ve Recently Added to My TBR. I have a lot of different places that I get my book ideas from, including Amazon recommendations, other blogs, and a variety of emails (BookPage mostly). I’ve found some great picks lately and I’m excited to share them with everyone!

The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston – I recently read Return of the Witch and I really enjoyed it so I definitely want to read the prequel to that (The Witch’s Daughter). I even purchased it on Amazon this past weekend so I could read it as soon as I had time.

The Martian by Andy Weir – I saw this movie this past weekend and Oh My Gosh it was SO good! I honestly didn’t even expect it to be that good, I thought I would get bored but I was riveted to the screen. I also purchased this one on Amazon so I can read it soon.

A Taste For Nightshade by Martine Bailey, The Evening Spider by Emily Arsenault,  and The Core of the Sun by Johanna Sinisalo – I read about these books in the BookPage January newsletter and they all sounded really interesting!

We Are Water by Wally Lamb, To the End of June by Cris Beam, The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, and The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline – I recently got a Book Lover’s Page a Day Calendar as a Christmas present from my friend Adria, and it is such a great source of book ideas! These books were each featured on one of the recent days on my calendar.

And lastly, The Children’s Home by Charles Lambert – I get the BookPage Book of the Day emails and this book was featured on Monday’s (yesterday’s) email. This book sounds dark and mysterious and fantastical and just awesome, I can’t wait to read it!

Due to my discovery of NetGalley this past year and all the requests I got from authors/publishers, I ended up not being able to read as many of my own picks as I had expected. I don’t have any particular order on these in terms of priority. These are all books from my Amazon wishlist that I put together for Christmas this year. These are just all books that  I’ve added to my to read list at some point during the year and are books that are higher up on the to read list so they made it onto the Christmas list.     This book tells the story of what would have happened if sorcery/magic had been illegal in the 1920’s. I thought the premise behind the book sounded really interesting and I love the cover.

    I’ve seen this book around a lot the past couple weeks and I think not only does it sound like a great book but same as with #1 just awesome cover. This book is about a girl who is in a mental ward after her boyfriend died in a fire that her twin sister set, its all very whacked and sounds just awesome.
  3. Not on Fire But Burning by Greg Hrbek

    This book sounds extremely good to me, it is almost at the top of my to read list even though I just heard about it. It is about a woman who is living in San Francisco when an atomic bomb is dropped there and also about her little brother who lives on the east coast but who’s parents are now claiming he never had a sister. Sounds weird and intriguing and just crazy cool
  4. In Bitter Chill by Sarah Ward

    Two girls disappear and only one comes back home, and no one can ever figure out what happened to the other girl. This mystery sounded gripping to me and I want to find out what happened!

Books I’ve Read That Became Movies I LOVE 

Practical Magic
51EW270W8XLWhile the movie adaptation for this was not what I would call “Faithful” to the story, this is overall one of my all time favorite reads and one of my favorite movies as well. The book honestly has like 2 extra story lines going on that the movie just didn’t have time for, but even without it the movie is just great!

Beautiful Creatures
pb_beautifulcreaturesLoved this whole series and I didn’t even know about the books until I saw the movie first and loved it. I wish they would keep going with the series with movie adaptations though!!!

Gone Girl
gone-girl-book-cover-homeI decided to read the book once I knew the movie was coming out. I’m really glad that I read the book first because I feel like the twist is more dramatic when you’re reading the book. Honestly though this is one of the best movie adaptations I’ve seen only because they stayed so close to the actual book. The movie only missed 2 small plot items in my opinion but other than that it was like line for line what was in the book, which you don’t always find with movie adaptations.

Hunger Games
71kAyV1ecULWhile I have to be honest and say I was anti-Hunger Games when I first heard about the books, I saw movies 1-3part1 and finally this past summer decided to read the books. They were great books and honestly I think part of me died at the end of the third book and I’m going to bawl my eyes out when I watch it this winter but at the same time I am so psyched to see it. Great series in both book and especially movie form.

Movies I LOVE That I Haven’t Read The Book Yet

Sherlock Holmes
91DXW4GVmCL._SX522_I just love Robert Downey Jr in this movie, and the Game of Shadows. I haven’t gotten around to reading any Sherlock Holmes books yet but I plan to.

Austenland
519PLxT7g0L._SX332_BO1,204,203,200_I thought this was just about the cutest movie. I loved the music and the costumes and the story line was sweet and funny. When I found out it was a book (and I guess that there is a second book as well) I was so psyched and got it from Book Outlet immediately.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2
41NnxthgZ8L._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_Honestly I feel like this movie is almost like a guilty-pleasure of mine. I don’t necessarily want to be one of the crowd and be in love with Twilight but this last movie honestly was just really kick ass and is more of like a vampire battle movie than a love story (though be warned there are sappy moments). I’ve never read any of the Twilight books and I’m not sure if I ever will be I really enjoy this movie.

Movie Adaptations That I’m Looking Forward to in 2016 and Beyond

The Royal We: Release Date Unknown
41HiZ6hLlDLGreat book! Just read this one this past June and am so excited to hear that they are planning to make it into a movie! Not sure when or really if it will come out yet but I can’t wait!

The Rosie Project: Release Date Unkown

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the book and I am excited to finally get around to reading it and then hopefully go see the movie.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: Release Date December 25, 2016
51xgGEKd6oLObviously this one is popular. And I don’t think it is all that widely known that it is being made into a movie yet. I feel like it is going to be a creepy movie. I will definitely be reading the book since I bought it on Block Island in September but I’m not a huge scary movie fan so haven’t fully decided if I will see this movie or not. Even if I don’t though I’m excited they decided to make it into a movie.
