Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books on my Spring TBR

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR. Unfortunately right now is a pretty busy time of year for me at work (I’m an accountant) so I haven’t been able to read nearly as much as I would like. The result of this is that my TBR list has grown by leaps and bounds over the last month or two. Here are some books that I’m really looking forward to reading this spring (if/when I magically find the time).

In no particular order:

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I’ve Recently Added to My TBR

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten Books I’ve Recently Added to My TBR. I have a lot of different places that I get my book ideas from, including Amazon recommendations, other blogs, and a variety of emails (BookPage mostly). I’ve found some great picks lately and I’m excited to share them with everyone!

The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston – I recently read Return of the Witch and I really enjoyed it so I definitely want to read the prequel to that (The Witch’s Daughter). I even purchased it on Amazon this past weekend so I could read it as soon as I had time.

The Martian by Andy Weir – I saw this movie this past weekend and Oh My Gosh it was SO good! I honestly didn’t even expect it to be that good, I thought I would get bored but I was riveted to the screen. I also purchased this one on Amazon so I can read it soon.

A Taste For Nightshade by Martine Bailey, The Evening Spider by Emily Arsenault,  and The Core of the Sun by Johanna Sinisalo – I read about these books in the BookPage January newsletter and they all sounded really interesting!

We Are Water by Wally Lamb, To the End of June by Cris Beam, The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, and The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline – I recently got a Book Lover’s Page a Day Calendar as a Christmas present from my friend Adria, and it is such a great source of book ideas! These books were each featured on one of the recent days on my calendar.

And lastly, The Children’s Home by Charles Lambert – I get the BookPage Book of the Day emails and this book was featured on Monday’s (yesterday’s) email. This book sounds dark and mysterious and fantastical and just awesome, I can’t wait to read it!

So what about all of you? What books have you added to your TBR list lately?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To But Didn’t

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To But Didn’t. Due to my discovery of NetGalley this past year and all the requests I got from authors/publishers, I ended up not being able to read as many of my own picks as I had expected. I have a number of authors that I always read their new releases and I missed a bunch of them this past year but I’m hoping to catch up in 2016!! Below is a list of 2015 new releases that I meant to read but ran out of time!

In no particular order:

Dangerous Deception by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Stolen Mackenzie Bride by Jennifer Ashley
If You Only Knew by Kristan Higgins
Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts
Undead and Unforgiven by Mary Janice Davidson
Siren’s Call by Jayne Castle
The Highlander Takes a Bride by Lynsay Sands
Secret Sisters by Jayne Ann Krentz
Sweetest Scoundrel by Elizabeth Hoyt
Anything For You by Kristan Higgins

So what about all of you? Any 2015 releases that you were really looking forward to that you didn’t get a chance to read?

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree This Year.

I don’t have any particular order on these in terms of priority. These are all books from my Amazon wishlist that I put together for Christmas this year. These are just all books that  I’ve added to my to read list at some point during the year and are books that are higher up on the to read list so they made it onto the Christmas list. There is a variety of books on the list, I’ve been a little scattered lately in my reading.

  1. A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis
  2. The Witch of Little Italy by Suzanne Palmieri
  3. Circling the Sun by Paula McLain
  4. Newport: A Novel by Jill Morrow
  5. It Was Me All Along by Andie Mitchell
  6. Out of Oz by Gregory Maguire
  7. After Alice by Gregory Maguire
  8. The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah
  9. The Cake Therapist by Judith Fertig
  10. The Edge of Lost by Kristina McMorris

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Best Books I Read in 2015

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten Best Books I Read in 2015. This one was definitely a hard one for me to narrow down since I read so many good books in 2015 (so far!).

10. The Light of Hidden Flowers by Jennifer Handford

9. Sisters of Versailles by Sally Christie

8. The Wonder of All Things by Jason Mott

7. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

6. The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman

5. When The Moon Is Low by Nadia Hashimi

4. The Bookseller by Cynthia Swanson

3. I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios

2. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

1. The Vintner’s Daughter by Kristen Harnisch

Since it really was just so tough for me to decide, I wanted to add in just a few honroable mention / runner ups. These books didn’t make it into my top ten but they were so close that I really think they deserve a shout out. And to be fair I’ve already read 120 books this year so these books still (pretty much) made it into my top 10%!

3. Imaginary Things by Andrea Lochen

2. Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

1. Something Borrowed / Something Blue by Emily Giffin

So those were my favorite books that I’ve read in 2015 (so far). What about all of you? What good books have you read this past year?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Book to Movie Adaptations

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten Book to Movie Adaptations. The specific topic was ones you are looking forward to but I only have a couple of those since I’m not exactly in the “know” about these kinds of things so I’m doing a few sub-lists of Book to Movie Adaptations.

Books I’ve Read That Became Movies I LOVE

Practical Magic
51EW270W8XLWhile the movie adaptation for this was not what I would call “Faithful” to the story, this is overall one of my all time favorite reads and one of my favorite movies as well. The book honestly has like 2 extra story lines going on that the movie just didn’t have time for, but even without it the movie is just great!

Beautiful Creatures
pb_beautifulcreatures
Loved this whole series and I didn’t even know about the books until I saw the movie first and loved it. I wish they would keep going with the series with movie adaptations though!!!

Gone Girl
gone-girl-book-cover-home
I decided to read the book once I knew the movie was coming out. I’m really glad that I read the book first because I feel like the twist is more dramatic when you’re reading the book. Honestly though this is one of the best movie adaptations I’ve seen only because they stayed so close to the actual book. The movie only missed 2 small plot items in my opinion but other than that it was like line for line what was in the book, which you don’t always find with movie adaptations.

Hunger Games
71kAyV1ecUL
While I have to be honest and say I was anti-Hunger Games when I first heard about the books, I saw movies 1-3part1 and finally this past summer decided to read the books. They were great books and honestly I think part of me died at the end of the third book and I’m going to bawl my eyes out when I watch it this winter but at the same time I am so psyched to see it. Great series in both book and especially movie form.

Movies I LOVE That I Haven’t Read The Book Yet

Sherlock Holmes
91DXW4GVmCL._SX522_
I just love Robert Downey Jr in this movie, and the Game of Shadows. I haven’t gotten around to reading any Sherlock Holmes books yet but I plan to.

Austenland
519PLxT7g0L._SX332_BO1,204,203,200_
I thought this was just about the cutest movie. I loved the music and the costumes and the story line was sweet and funny. When I found out it was a book (and I guess that there is a second book as well) I was so psyched and got it from Book Outlet immediately.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2
41NnxthgZ8L._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_
Honestly I feel like this movie is almost like a guilty-pleasure of mine. I don’t necessarily want to be one of the crowd and be in love with Twilight but this last movie honestly was just really kick ass and is more of like a vampire battle movie than a love story (though be warned there are sappy moments). I’ve never read any of the Twilight books and I’m not sure if I ever will be I really enjoy this movie.

Movie Adaptations That I’m Looking Forward to in 2016 and Beyond

The Red Queen: Release Date Unknown
41xTH4whq9LJust read this book this past summer and loved it, I am so excited for The Glass Sword to come out in February and I am really excited to hear that this might be made into a movie!

The Royal We: Release Date Unknown
41HiZ6hLlDL
Great book! Just read this one this past June and am so excited to hear that they are planning to make it into a movie! Not sure when or really if it will come out yet but I can’t wait!

The Rosie Project: Release Date Unkown
51quwX2jRmL._SX311_BO1,204,203,200_
We will be reading this one in my book club in 2016. I suggested it since I thought it would be a good one to read with the movie coming out in 2016. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the book and I am excited to finally get around to reading it and then hopefully go see the movie.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: Release Date December 25, 2016
51xgGEKd6oL
Obviously this one is popular. And I don’t think it is all that widely known that it is being made into a movie yet. I feel like it is going to be a creepy movie. I will definitely be reading the book since I bought it on Block Island in September but I’m not a huge scary movie fan so haven’t fully decided if I will see this movie or not. Even if I don’t though I’m excited they decided to make it into a movie.

This week is a listing of the Top Ten Books on My Fall TBR ListThere are a lot of good books coming out this fall and I had a little trouble narrowing it down to just 10 but I figured it out somehow. I highly doubt I’ll read all 10 of these this fall but they’re all added to my TBR listing and we’ll see how many I can fit into the schedule. A couple of them I was able to get through NetGalley so at least I know those will get read.

1. Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts

2. Sweetest Scoundrel by Elizabeth Hoyt

3. Undead and Unforgiven by Mary Janice Davidson

4. After Alice by Gregory Maguire

5. Along the Infinite Sea by Beatriz Williams

6. This Is Your Life, Harriet Chance! by Jonathan Evison

7. The Good Neighbor by Amy Sue Nathan

8. Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy

9. A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis

10. Blood & Salt by Kim Ligget

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Fairytale Retellings I’ve Read/Want To Read

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Top Ten Fairytale Retellings I’ve Read/Want to Read. I’ve always loved fairy tales (Cinderella was my favorite movie growing up) and I really enjoy some of the fairy tale retellings that have been published. It is a fun, usually adult spin on a childhood dream. So below are some of my favorites I have read and ones I definitely want to read:

1. Fairy Tales series by Eloisa James

I have to say this is a great series of fairy tale retellings, especially if you like historical romance novels. I really liked the series.

2. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
51ZanRZ7R4LI LOVED THIS BOOK! Great read and I definitely recommend. Can’t wait for #2 in the series to come out next year!

3. Atlantis Rising by Gloria Craw
71mccBs4q+LI’m not sure if Atlantis really counts as “fairy tales” but if we’re going to liberally use the term then I guess it counts. I read this book recently and really enjoyed it!

WANT TO READ

1. Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series and I currently own the first and third book. I can’t wait to dive in, just have to find time to fit them in! As a side note, the last picture (Winter) is being released this fall.

2. Wicked series by Gregory Maguire

I own the first book in this series, I had started it a long time ago and never finished it (like 8 years ago at least, maybe more). I am a massively huge fan of the musical that was inspired/based on the first book though and I recently discovered that it became a series so I am looking forward to reading all 4 of these books. Gregory Maguire also has some other fairy tale retellings I would like to check out, including Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and After Alice.

Any suggestions?

So that’s mostly it! There are just so many options for fairy-tale retellings that it is hard to narrow it down. One thing I realized while compiling this list is that I haven’t really ever seen a good retelling of The Little Mermaid. Does anyone have any suggestions for books like that? I would love to hear about them! Also let me know if you think I’ve missed any really great fairytale retellings. This is one of my favorite genres so I would love to add some of these to my TBR list!

Happy reading!

Top Ten Tuesday: Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a different bookish topic and bloggers are asked to post their own top ten list based on the topic. This week is a listing of the Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession. I have been pretty active in both requesting e-galleys, accepting donations from family and friends, and at my local library so I am going to try and piece this together the best I can.

From Net Galley:

91QpVLUeCRL 71j--nny2-L 51Gqb-Gy0YL

I’m actually pretty excited because all 3 of these were books that I wanted to read and I was able to get all of them on Net Galley for free! I have only recently discovered the greatness that is Net Galley and I am looking forward to using it much more in the future.
1. The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert
2. A Window Opens by Elisabeth Egan
3. Awake by Natasha Preston

From my Gram:

51obymFecuL 51NUxKpRVeL 51rHDATyEkL 81ZGLCqdG7L

This past weekend I visited my Grandma and Grandpa down in Pennsylvania. My Grandma is a part of a book club down there and every so often when I visit she lets me take some books from her leftovers (which I LOVE). So this past weekend I brought 4 books home with me that I haven’t read before and all of them look really interest and I can’t wait to read them!
4. Long Time Gone by Karen White
5. Matters of Faith by Kristy Kiernan
6. The Paris Wife by Paula McLain
7. The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown

From Publishers:

81dnDA59FCL

This is the first print ARC copy I’ve ever received. I’m pretty excited about it.
8. Stove-Junker by S.K. Kalsi

Gifted from Mom’s kindle:

719hHFo9NOL 81RpOupzUuL

After all the Net Galley activity, I’ve gotten tired of using the kindle app on my phone. My mom had an older kindle that she hasn’t been using since she has both a Paper white and a Kindle Fire. When she gave me her Kindle there were a few books on it from her account and I was able to keep these two. I am trying to read more classics this year so I’m glad these are now available to me!
9. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
10. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

SO! That’s my listing of books I’ve most recently received. What books have you gotten lately?
